New RT series Ceol le Chile amplifies the multicultural voices of Ireland today

Ceol le Ch ile, a new series that follows Irish artists as they collaborate with musicians from diverse backgrounds, using music to tell deeply personal stories and create powerful performances will begin on RT One and RT Player on Friday 25 September at 8pm.

The four-part series explores collaboration, identity and Irish culture as it evolves. Leading Irish artists including Liam Maonla , Aoife N Bhriain, Jack Talty, Muintir de Barra, and Muintir U Mhaolag in (Sar n Maolag in, Caoimhe N Mhaolag in and Muirne Nic R ib n) are joined by musicians and performers Favour Odusola, Pooja Sethi Khanna, Citadel, and Anna Stepanova, whose roots span countries including Nigeria, India, Syria, Azerbaijan and Ukraine. Together, they create new work that combines Irish traditional music, sean-n s song and dance, with Indian music and global percussion to celebrate music as a shared language that transcends borders.

Blending the traditional and the contemporary, this series shines a light on the new and diverse voices shaping modern Ireland. Intimate sessions and soul-stirring performances showcase the power of music in connecting people across different cultures.

Throughout the series, audiences will be guided by Belfast composer and musician Neil Martin, who highlights the importance of music in uncovering the richness of our cultural similarities. Collaborations unfold in locations including The Cobblestone in Dublin, the Irish World Music Cafe at the University of Limerick and Lismore Castle in Waterford.

With sensitive and personal stories, Ceol le Ch ile explores migration and identity and highlights how important music is for wellbeing and social inclusion in a new country.

Episode one of Ceol le Ch ile will air on Friday 25 September on RT One and RT Player.
