Media releases - 0 Digital screen production moves into the mainstream

Screen Australia's CEO Ruth Harley today welcomed Arts Minister Simon Crean's release of the National Cultural Policy and the new immediate funding commitment of $10 million over four years to support the production of Australian content on digital platforms.

Like going to the cinema and watching television, interactive and online entertainment is now a mainstream activity, said Dr Harley. The $10 million funding commitment over four years is a welcome boost to our multi-platform programs, which will allow us to support digital storytellers to hone their skills in a converged world and harness the potential of social networks to distribute their content through fast broadband.

On Monday, the agency released the final guidelines for its suite of new Interactive and Multi-platform programs which also included $20 million for games through the Australian Interactive Games Fund, announced in November 2012 by Minister Crean.

The final guidelines for each program are available on the Screen Australia website, with application deadlines as follows:

Games Enterprise: 22 April

Games Production: 12 July

Signature Documentary (including Multi-platform Production): 22 March

Multi-platform Drama: 12 April

Screen Australia also welcomed the $20 million allocation to attract international production into Australia.

This is a vital contribution to enabling large-scale productions to continue to come into Australia. They are an essential component in the overall health of our screen production industry's ecosystem, said Dr Harley.
