ProMedia(R) Multiscreen Preparation Solution With HEVC and 4K Ultra HD Support

At CABSAT 2014, Harmonic will highlight an end-to-end OTT multiscreen workflow with its ProMedia(R) multiscreen preparation solution -- the market share leader in multiscreen software transcoding. The latest features for the ProMedia family of integrated software applications include support for HEVC encoding and 4K Ultra HD video format; increased synergy with the Harmonic(R) MediaGrid shared storage system for the delivery of time-shifted TV services; and support for closed captioning, regional blackouts, and local ad insertion.

These enhancements to the product family arrive at a time when more broadcasters and service providers are looking to expand their portfolio with high-quality multiscreen services that scale and deliver amazing video. Harmonic customers now have the flexibility, scalability, and efficiency needed to accomplish this goal, drive new revenue streams, and improve the video experience.

ProView(TM) Integrated Receiver-Decoder, Transcoder, and Stream Processor

Harmonic will demonstrate enhancements to its ProView(TM) integrated receiver-decoder (IRD) product line at CABSAT 2014. ProView is the industrys first 1-RU, scalable, multiformat IRD, transcoder, and MPEG stream processor. The feature-rich platform performs broadcast-quality SD/HD MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC decoding and video transcoding, giving content providers, broadcasters, cable MSOs, and telcos the ability to easily and cost-effectively streamline their workflows and decrease operating costs. For applications in which preserving pristine video quality is paramount, this solution also supports AVC HD 4:2:2 10-bit decoding up to 1080p.

The ProView IRD family harnesses a flexible and modular design to address the vast spectrum of content reception applications, from decoding, descrambling, and multiplexing of multiple transport streams to MPEG-4 to MPEG-2 transcoding. With an advanced and dense multichannel descrambler, the platform simplifies the deployment of, or migration to, an all-IP headend solution and powers the launch of added-value services. The flexible hardware design is easily reconfigured with firmware upgrades, enabling seamless adaptation to new inbound video formats and codecs, such as MPEG-4 AVC.

Ellipse(R) Contribution Encoder

At CABSAT 2014, Harmonic will also highlight the new Ellipse(R) 3000 contribution encoder. The Ellipse 3000 employs MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC 4:2:0/4:2:2 8- and10-bit compression technologies to enable transmission of pristine real-time video over satellite and broadband contribution networks. By encoding the highest-possible picture quality at the front end of the broadcast chain, the Ellipse 3000 offers broad codec support and simple in-field firmware upgradability.

Very low latency, in conjunction with multiformat and multicodec versatility, makes the Ellipse 3000 ideal for digital satellite newsgathering (DSNG) operations and live sports coverage -- or any application in which premium image quality and high performance are primary considerations.

Spectrum(TM) ChannelPort(TM) Integrated Channel Playout System
