Season 4 of KCETs Award-Winning Arts and Culture Series, Artbound Debuts on February at 9 p.m.

BURBANK, CALIF. - Feb. 10, 2014 - KCET, the nations largest independent television station serving Southern and Central California, is pleased to announce that its award-winning, transmedia arts and culture journalism series, Artbound, will return for a fourth season on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 9 p.m.

The new season kicks off with a trip to San Bernardino to explore the sandbagging construction techniques of the California Institute of Earth Architecture, whose handmade structures redefine sustainable housing. Then, in Boyle Heights, the Public Matters Market Makeover Project addresses the grocery gap in food deserts, those urban areas that have limited access to quality, healthy eating options. Nearby, in the Los Angeles enclave of Lincoln Heights, three Mexican-American deejays form Metralleta de Oro, a vinyl-spinning crew who specializes in Sonidero, an extremely rhythmic sub-genre of Latin American cumbia music. In Riverside, Hiromi Takizawas Ultraviolet installation illumines the role of light in architectural and environmental spaces. East Los Angeles visual artist Jaime Germs Zacarias takes inspiration from religious iconography, lucha libre, and the city of Los Angeles to create his signature pop surrealist works. Finally, the episode concludes with an in-studio performance by indie goth rocker Chelsea Wolfe.

Other segments highlighted in season 4 include: The Machine Project Field Guide to L.A. Architecture, an initiative featuring over 20 artists throughout Los Angeles, which celebrates Southern Californias modern architectural heritage; and an epic 240-mile journey with 100 mules along the historic Los Angeles aqueduct in commemoration of the centenary of the opening on Nov. 5, 1913.

Since its launch in May 2012, Artbound has earned numerous awards for its coverage of Southern Californias unique narrative of arts and culture, including a Southern California Journalism Award, National Entertainment Journalism Award and Golden Mike Award. The site was also named a Webby Award Official Honoree and voted Best Arts & Culture Site by L.A. Weekly in 2012.
