Recognized by public and private-sector enterprises, GS Certification is a program that comprehensively evaluates various aspects of software quality, such as functional suitability, performance efficiency, usability, reliability, and security based on ISO standards.

KOREA - August 24, 2022-Blancco Korea, the Korean office of Blancco Technology Group (www.blancco.com), today announced that Blancco's data erasure solution for hard disk drives and solid-state drives has obtained GS Certification Level 1, the highest-level certification for security software.

The GS Certification applies to Blancco Drive Eraser, a data sanitization solution that erases data stored on drives such as PCs, servers, and external disks, and supports various types of drives such as hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs), including NVMe drives.

This enables government and other heavily regulated organizations to protect sensitive data from being accessed on data storage media when data is being migrated, when assets are retired or redeployed, or when the information is no longer needed.

Along with the new GS Certification, Blancco Drive Eraser has several global and industry certifications, including Common Criteria.

As a data destruction tool, Blancco Drive Eraser's capabilities and approvals allow enterprises, including government, healthcare, and financial services, to prove compliance with data protection regulations.

Because it completely and securely removes data across a wide variety of drives and devices, Blancco Drive Eraser also enables safe device reuse, thereby supporting sustainability initiatives by reducing unnecessary electronic waste.

A user can select an appropriate erasure standard for different storage media types according to the organization's security regulations and the industry's data security guidelines.

SSD erasure methods are different from HDD erasure methods. Overwriting with repetitive pattern values can be applicable to HDDs, but in the case of SSDs, the overwriting and drive's firmware-based erasure commands must be executed together.

With a proprietary method patented in the US, Europe, and Japan, Blanco Drive Eraser can overwrite the entire drive area of a solid-state drive with multiple random overwrites, execute firmware-based erase commands, and validate that the data was successfully overwritten.

After finishing the data erasure process, the erasure report is published. It includes erasure date and time, whether the erasure is done successfully or not, the applied erasure algorithm, identifying hardware information for the drive (serial numbers, manufacturer information, etc.), erasure validation information, and more. The erasure report, available in XML and PDF formats, can be used as proof of data sanitization for security and compliance auditing.

Blancco Drive Eraser follows Korea's National Intelligence Service's IT System Storage Disposal Guidelines revised in December 2020, as well as the US National Institute of Standards and Technology's Guidelines for Media Sanitization (NIST SP 800-88 Rev.1).
