Possibilities for WiFi technology application extended in Republic of Belarus 20.09.2016

On August 29, 2016 the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus adopted Resolution No.13 On amendments and additions to the regulations of the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus of June 14, 2013 No.7 and of July 1, 2013 No. 9 which becomes effective since September 21, 2016.

This resolution amends and supplements the List of radio electronic means and (or) high frequency devices which are not subject to registration and the List of radio electronic means and high frequency devices, the operation of which is carried out without the permission of the right to use radio frequency spectrum, issued as a result of assignment (appointment) of radio frequency or radio frequency channel.

The resolution is prepared with due regard to the decisions of the State Commission for Radio Frequencies under the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus, proposals made by state bodies and organizations and is intended to create conditions for further development of cellular mobile telecommunication networks and improvement of quality of their services, facilitation of access to modern technologies for all users of radio spectrum.

Upon entering of the resolution into force, there will be an opportunity to use broadband access radio-electronic means of IEEE 802.11 standards (WiFi technology) without registration and operational permits both inside buildings and transport facilities, as well as a wide range of low-power GSM technology devices, UMTS and LTE, sea crafts radio stations that have the right to sail under the state flag of the Republic of Belarus. The opportunity to use certain types of satellite subscriber terminals without need to obtain permits for their operation is given as well.

Implementation of the resolution will enhance the development of networks of cellular mobile telecommunication operators and have a positive impact on the quality of their services, increase the use of WiFi technology, simplify access to the spectrum for the subscribers of the National Network of Satellite Communication and Broadcasting of the Republic of Belarus.
