Want to be a ninja? Silly question! Who doesn't?

Plenty of ninjas will soon be coming our way, and you could be one of them. That's because .ninja is one of the new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) recently approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Right now, people can't yet secure a .ninja address, but anyone will be able to soon, and it's sure to be a popular choice.

In the same week that ICANN signed a registry agreement for .ninja, it signed RAs for 33 other gTLDs, including .center, .wiki and .education. Look for hundreds of colorful new gTLDs to come online in the near future.

For registries, all these domains will have one thing in common: They will all need to be escrowed with an approved escrow service provider.

In order to keep the Internet and the businesses that depend on it running smoothly, ICANN requires gTLDs to escrow their domain name registration data. This way, if a registry fails or falls short of meeting its requirements, ICANN can reassign its customer data to another registry. This ensures that domain-holding businesses don't suffer.

As registry operators prepare to manage the many new domains coming online, they should consider that no escrow provider has as many years' experience as Iron Mountain.

More than 75 percent of all registry operators currently use Iron Mountain to satisfy their data escrow requirements.
