KCET Celebrates Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual Pride Mon with Special Programming in June

KCET CELEBRATES LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSEXUAL (LGBT) PRIDE MONTH WITH SPECIAL PROGRAMMING IN JUNE

KCET Community Advisory Board Member Richard Zaldivar featured in Orgullo Latino about the LGBT Latino Experience.

Burbank, CA - June 1, 2012 -KCET is pleased to present a month of special programming in honor of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Pride month in June, bringing awareness and understanding about the LGBT experience in America, and including prominent LGBT leaders as entertainer Jane Lynch and Richard Zaldivar, a KCET Community Advisory Board Member and President and founder of The Wall/Las Memorias Project.

In The Life is the longest running television show to feature the faces, voices and stories shaping the LGBT experience. Produced by In The Life Media, the series provides audiences with effective ways to advance equality within and beyond communities.

In The Life episode Orgullo Latino, airing June 18 at 10:30 p.m., captures the emerging movement of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Latinos in the United States. It explores the complexity of the Latino experience in the United States with a look at gay and lesbian Latinos who are stepping up to create change, shatter stereotypes and become leaders within their communities, including Richard Zaldivar, a KCET Community Advisory Board Member and President and founder of The Wall/Las Memorias Project.

It is an honor to have been featured in Orgullo Latino on In the Life. This program is a vital component to educating our nation about the diverse Latino LGBTQ community and contributes to a greater conversation to the path to tolerance, human and social justice for all, said Zaldivar. I am thrilled that KCET has chosen to air the documentary in its schedule and continue its mission to be the primary media partner for our multi-cultural community.

Other episodes in the series will air Mondays at 12 a.m. beginning June 4.

Claiming The Title: Gay Olympics On Trial, airing Sunday, June 3 at 11 p.m., is a documentary that chronicles the story of an athletic group in San Francisco that tried to hold what they called a Gay Olympics. The result was a look into the inner workings of the Court and the individual justices, real people with human emotions and deeply-held assumptions.

Forever Home: Going Green, airing Sunday, June 3 at 11:30 p.m., goes behind the remodeling of Iris Harrell and Ann Bensons beautiful home in Portola Valley, California. Iris, who owns Harrell Remodeling in Mountain View, has remodeled hundreds of kitchens, bathrooms, and homes for other people over the years. This time the remodel is for her and Ann. Theyre celebrating their legal marriage in California after more than 28 years together.

A Place To Live: The Story of Triangle Square, airing Tuesday, June 5 at 10 p.m., is a documentary that highlights the development and construction of Triangle Square in Hollywood -- the countrys first affordable housing facility for LGBT senior citizens.

Georgie Girl, airing Sunday, June 10 at 11 p.m., reveals the story of Georgina Beyer, a transsexual of Maori descent who was elected in 1999 to represent her district in New Zealands National government. Beyer has been a showgirl, a sex worker and now a politician.

Out in the Silence, Sunday, airing June 17 at 11 p.m., follows the account of a small American town confronting a firestorm of controversy ignited by a same-sex wedding announcement in the local newspaper. This gripping documentary illustrates the challenges of being an outsider in a conservative rural community and the change that is possible when courageous people break the silence and search from common ground.

Out & Proud in Chicago, airing Tuesday, June 19 at 10 p.m., charts the history of Chicagos lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community from the 19th century to the present. Hosted by actress and Chicago native Jane Lynch, the documentary tells the story of the LGBT citizens who helped shape the face of a city.
