Muvhango' struggles to secure SABC contract, production halted in AugustActors from the Venda soapie said they've been sitting at home without salaries due to an expired contract and they're tired of it.

Muvhango actors have revealed that they have been home for two months without salaries as the SABC (South African Broadcasting Commission) has yet to renew the soapies contract.

Sowetan has reported that the contract between the soapie and the SABC ended mid-August and that the Word-of-Mouth Production actors and crew have been on a production break since.

Four independent sources from the channel stated that Muvhango submitted all its required documents to the broadcaster in May.

SABC RESPONDS Gugu Ntuli who is a spokesperson at the channel only stated:

The SABC is finalising negotiations with Word-of-Mouth Production on another season of Muvhango.

The SABC can confirm that Muvhango will continue to be broadcast on SABC2, Mondays to Fridays at 9 pm.

Thanduxolo Jindela who is a spokesperson at Word-of-Mouth Production referred all questions to the broadcaster and stated that they were waiting for the channel to finalise the process.

ACTORS ARE WITHOUT SALARIES Several actors from the soapie said people are already overwhelmed because they have been at home for a long time and there are bonds and insurance to be paid at the end of the month.

It is a heavy situation. When the show has been performing well you start asking yourself questions if the problem is with the production house.

. .. or is the broadcaster just being punitive but for what?

Another actor who wanted to remain anonymous said the biggest issue is that actors and the rest of the crew will still have to wait for the production house to decide if they get the contract or not.

The actor also said they are worried about the production guys as they are breadwinners.

A third actor said they are crossing their fingers for the process to be concluded fast.

I am concerned that the more I am sitting and not working, the situation will get worse.
