Author Kia Abdullah is no novice when it comes to writing great thrillers. Readers will know her from her award-winning novel Next of Kin or her bestselling thriller Take It Back, but it is Abdullah's latest novel that has cemented as one of the best writers of courtroom dramas.

This novel has everything you want from a thriller and more. It has the basics: a gripping plot, intriguing characters and lots of courtroom drama. This book, however, goes deeper than your average thriller. It tackles complex issues we have to face today like cancel culture and online hate.

Abdullah is truly a master at building tension and keeping the reader hooked throughout the novel. You will find yourself reading late into the night and telling yourself Just one more chapter .
In Those People Next Door, Abdullah cleverly brings together a story that forces you to examine your own life and makes you uncomfortable in the best way. This is definitely a must-read!

Salma Khatun is extremely hopeful about Blenheim, the safe suburban development to which she, her husband and their son have just moved.
Not long after they move in, Salma spots her neighbour, Tom Hutton, ripping out the anti-racist banner she put in her front garden. She chooses not to confront Tom because she wants to fit in. So, Salma takes the banner inside and puts it in her window instead.
But the next morning she wakes up to find her window smeared with paint. This time she does confront Tom, and the battle lines between the two families are drawn. As things begin to escalate and the stakes become higher, it's clear that a reckoning is coming and someone is going to get hurt.

MORE ABOUT THE AUTHOR Author Kia Abdullah. Image via Twitter @betterknownshow. According to her website, Kia Abdullah is British bestselling author and travel writer. Her novels include Take It Back, which was chosen as The Guardian thriller of the year, and Truth Be Told, which was shortlisted for a Diverse Book Award. One of her other novels, Next of Kin, was longlisted for the CWA Gold Dagger Award and went on to win the Adult Fiction Diverse Book Award 2022.
Abdullah graduated university with a degree in computer science. She left behind the world of code when she began working for Penguin Publishing. From here, she built a following through her travel blogs. Through all these twists in her career, Abdullah never stopped writing.
These days she spends her time hiking, mentoring pupils from Tower Hamlets and writing (of course).
