PhotoReview names the Rotolight NEO 2 an editor's choice

After a fruitful 2018 accruing six accolades from Photography News, Digital Camera and more, prominent Australian magazine PhotoReview, has named the Rotolight NEO 2 an editor's choice for lighting.

A powerful on-camera LED with both a bi-colour continuous output of 2000 lux and a High Speed Sync flash which boasts zero recycle time, the NEO 2 is a portable lighting solution that offers the flexibility to fully shape and control the light. [Handholding the light and] being able to constantly adjust both the lighting angle and the distance between the light and the camera provided plenty of scope for experimentation, the reviewer says. Alongside the shoot what you see' benefits of continuous lighting, the NEO 2 also allows users to fully adjust the brightness and colour temperature (3150-6300K) of its output for full control over how the light falls on the subject.

Trialling the NEO 2 in thorough and varied tests, PhotoReview noted the benefits it provides portrait photographers: As a continuous light source the soft light from the LED panel has a lot of appeal, says PhotoReview. The circular shape of the light delivers a naturally soft light output that is flattering for portraiture. It also produces characteristic circular catchlights in subjects' eyes.

The NEO 2 also includes an enhanced suite of Rotolight's industry-first built-in lighting effects - CineSFXTM - which can be customised to the user's needs. It would also be a good investment for photographers moving into video production, whether for vlogging or producing YouTube movies. In such situations, the built-in special effects have potential to add interest to the end results and make them more arresting.
