Berklee and Lollapalooza Chile and Brazil Announce Valencia Scholarships

Berklee College of Music, along with and Lollapalooza Chile and Lollapalooza Brazil, one of the premier music festivals in the world, announce the launch of a scholarship to be awarded by Berklee to one outstanding musician from Chile and another from Brazil. Full-tuition scholarships will allow the students to attend one of the four master's programs offered at the college's new international campus in Valencia beginning in September 2013. Recipients can choose from programs in contemporary performance; scoring for film, television, and video games; global entertainment and music business; and music technology innovation.

For the second consecutive year, the alliance between Berklee College of Music and Lotus (Lollapalooza Chile), and Lollapalooza Brazil promotes the improvement of both a Chilean and a Brazilian musician through scholarship awards.

The essence of Lollapalooza is about artist discovery and providing opportunity for emerging bands to reach new audiences, said Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell.

In addition, the recipient of the Berklee Lollapalooza Chile scholarship will receive support from the Chilean National Council for the Arts and Culture, which will finance the flight costs to attend the master's program at the Berklee Valencia campus.

We share the common goals of providing opportunity and preparation for emerging young talent to succeed in the global music business and this collaboration willensure that gifted musicians from Chile have the means to attend,said Guillermo Cisneros, vice president for global initiatives, Berklee College of Music, and executive director, Berklee in Valencia.

The third Lollapalooza Chile festival will be held April 6-7, 2013, featuring headline acts Pearl Jam, the Black Keys, Deadmau5, and Queens of the Stone Age. Berklee band Red Oblivion will also be performing as a result of the partnership with Lollapalooza. After a successful inaugural festival in So Paulo in 2012, Lollapalooza Brazilis back March 29-31 with Pearl Jam, the Killers, the Black Keys, deadmau5, Queens of the Stone Age, and Planet Hemp as headliners.

Students interested in being considered for the Berklee Lollapalooza Chile and Brazil scholarships should apply to one of the Berklee in Valencia master's programs by May 1, 2013, at the following link: http://berkleevalencia.org/academic-programs/master-degrees/. Applicants must alsosubmit the Berklee Graduate Aid Application, available on the student application online account.
