Dublin Band Heroes In Hiding Win 2fm s Play The Picnic with Oxfam

The votes have been counted and 2fm's Play The Picnic with Oxfam overall winner for 2015 is Dublin band Heroes in Hiding.

Heroes in Hiding are a Dublin-based alternative folk-rock quartet comprising Joe Carroll (24), Liam McCabe (24), Oisin Jacob (25), and Cian Donohoe (25).

The band's winning track, Today, I Mean It, is the lead single from their second EP, Decorated Absence, which was produced by Philip Magee (Kodaline, Miles Kane, The Script).

The band will join the line-up for Cosby Stage at Electric Picnic 2015, which takes place between the 4th and 6th of September.

Cian Donohoe, drummer with Heroes In Hiding, says: To be on the same bill as Florence and the Machine and Blur is incredible. There are bands on the line up we have listened to since we were kids, some of whom have shaped us into the musicians we are now. Also, when so many people get behind you and support you, it really gives us the belief to keep doing what we are doing. We can't thank all our friends and fans enough for giving us this opportunity and hope they continue to support us in the coming years.

Heroes in Hiding saw off stiff competition from hundreds of Play The Picnic entrants and, notably, the nine other finalists in the competition: Ae Mak, Aine Cahill, El Grey, Just Mikey, Monster Monster, Neev Kennedy, Seo Linn, White Boys and Wolves of Youth; all of whom will play at Electric Picnic at Oxfam Ireland's Oxjam Tent.

Dan Healy, Head of 2fm, says: Giving unsigned, hardworking bands the chance to showcase themselves at Ireland's biggest music festival, Electric Picnic, is what 2fm's Play The Picnic with Oxfam is all about. The overall winner of 2fm's Play The Picnic with Oxfam was determined by a public text vote, with proceeds going to support Oxfam Ireland's work worldwide*, such as their emergency response in Nepal, with each text vote helping to change someone s life for the better.

Oxfam s Laura O Leary said: There was a brilliant response to the Play The Picnic competition with acts from across the country taking part and our congratulations to Heroes in Hiding who have been voted overall winners. Supporting home-grown talent, this competition has also raised vital funds for Oxfam's work such as the emergency response in Nepal with all proceeds from the text vote being donated to Oxfam Ireland and helping to save lives overseas."

In addition to playing The Cosby Stage at the Picnic, Heroes in Hiding also win master classes with two of the best experts in the music industry: Festival Republic Managing Director, Melvin Benn and 2fm Director of Music and Sound, Mark McCabe.
