Belgian Film Red Soil Shoots in the Misiones jungle of Argentina

The jungle province of Misiones, Argentina (home to the 7th wonder of the world Iguazu Falls) will see a new international production start shooting the first week of March. After Pablo Fendrik shot the Argentine/Brazilian/US/French film The Ardor (a period Western starring Gael Garc a Bernal and Alice Braga, currently in post-production) now comes the time for Red Soil.

The film is an Argentine/Brazilian/Belgian co-production, to be directed by Diego Mart nez Vignatti and starring the Belgian Geert Van Rampelberg, best known for his work in the Oscar-nominated The Broken Circle (2012). The movie follows Pierre (Van Rampelberg), whose work at a deforesting company causes local revolt, and results in a romance with militant teacher Ana (Eugenia Ram rez).

This movie is going to be very different from my previous ones. It's the most narrative so far, says filmmaker Vignatti. It's not an epic, it's a modern film. It's not a documentary either, even though the facts are tied to a certain reality .

The movie is being locally produced by Trivial Media together with the Belgian companies Entre Chien et Loup and A Private View and is scheduled for release this year.

Other famous films shot in Misiones include The Mission directed by Roland Joff (who returned to Argentina to shoot There be Dragons set in Franco Spain) and starring Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons. Misiones province is very film friendly, providing top logistics, great hotels and infrastructure. It also has a special cinema law adding more advantages to filming there.
