The National Film and Video Foundation supports Bojanala Film Week

An initiative of the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality, the film week is aimed at promoting and establishing film activity to the out of school youth within the Bojanala District. For the duration of the film week, the NFVF will host workshops on various aspects of filmmaking. Some of these include Directing, Distribution, Producing, how to enter the film industry and how to register a film project. These workshops will be facilitated by industry practitioners who are experts on their respective fields. The facilitators are film producer and director Bonginhlanhla Ncube, Blitz Patrollie producer Isaac Mogajane, Clive Fisher from Ster-Kinekor and Mojalefa Khosa from Companies and Intellectual Property Commission.

The NFVF will also host a research forum to measure the impact the film week has had on the youth of Bojanala from the past two years. The feedback from the forum will also help the NFVF in identifying areas of improvement and will inform the approach for future participation in the film week. Apart from workshops and the forum, there will also be screenings of local films like Oscar-award winning Tsotsi and Nothing for Mahala. For the first time ever the Bojanala Film Week will be opened with the screening of the short film produced by previous participants.

Head of Policy & Research and Acting Head of Marketing and Communications Aifheli Makhwanya said the Bojanala Film Week has become one of the NFVFs key Provincial roadshows and the response and attitude from the young people in the area is very encouraging. Part of our mandate is to ensure that film activity is spread across in all corners of the country and initiatives like the Bojanala Film Week help us to fulfil that mandate. The fact that this year we will open the film week with a project that is produced by the previous participants is a signal that this whole exercise is starting to produce fruits. We once again invite the young people of Bojanala to come and take part in the workshops and empower themselves with necessary knowledge that will help them to advance in the industry, says Makhwanya.

For the first time ever, the film week will host outreach programmes where the youth in these regions will enjoy free movies.
