In lieu of the usual telethon for WRALs Coats for the Children Campaign, WRAL-TV held a COVID-friendly Day of Giving on Friday, December 10, 2021. The phone bank format may have changed, but the generosity of WRAL-TV viewers has not.
As of Saturday morning, WRAL Coats for the Children has raised over $136,000 dollars (and counting) for the Salvation Army locations in our community.
With more than 140, 000 people that you all serve, I have no doubt that these funds as well as the massive amounts of coats, winter clothing and toys donated will give families a warmer and brighter winter, said WRAL-TV Local Production Manager Don Ursich to the WRAL Coats team as he shared the great news.
WRAL teams worked across the region on two specials airing after the noon and evening newscasts to bring attention to the need for warm winter coats. And viewers kindly responded.
Once again the community has stepped up to help WRAL support local families in need, said Ursich.
The 33rd Annual WRAL Coats for the Children runs through December 31. Bring new or gently used coats to drop off locations and/or make monetary donations online.
