LinkedIn is for real people, real jobs, and real conversations. Authentic content and engagement help create economic opportunity, which is why we focus on helping members better understand who and what they interact with on LinkedIn.
We actively limit the reach of inauthentic activity, including engagement pods and automated comments, by using technology and human review to help detect suspicious behavior, sometimes reducing reach, and taking action when policies are violated.
We're expanding verifications to build trust at scale. More than 100 million members have added at least one verification to their profile, with new steps to help make real people and real opportunities easier to spot.
People come to LinkedIn to connect with people, find real jobs, and explore credible ideas and advice. Authenticity helps us create economic opportunities for the global workforce. That's why we're focused on helping our members understand more about the people, jobs, companies, and content they interact with on LinkedIn.
We are dedicated to supporting authentic and professional content and conversations on LinkedIn, and we use a combination of technology and teams to help keep LinkedIn safe. We have been focused on a few key areas to help members build credibility and stay safe.
Promoting Authentic Engagement
Inauthentic engagement can take many forms. It can be done in groups or solo, and it often includes the use of automation or careful coordination. Our teams are constantly working on getting better at spotting suspicious patterns, flagging posts that look artificially boosted, and limiting their reach in the feed. If we suspect a person or company may be participating in this type of inauthentic engagement, it may affect how that content is distributed across LinkedIn and could lead to restricting their ability to use LinkedIn.
One specific form of inauthentic engagement is an engagement pod, which is a coordinated group of people that like, comment and share posts to attempt to boost visibility and virality. This form of inauthentic activity erodes trust and is not allowed on LinkedIn. Over the last few months, we've continued to take significant steps to address this, including:
Removing LinkedIn groups exhibiting signs of engagement pod behaviors
Reaching out to members whose actions showed signs of participation in engagement pods or use of automation tools, reminding them of our policies and warning of possible account restrictions and removals from LinkedIn programs, including Top Voices
Reducing Automated Comments
Automated comments are comments posted to LinkedIn using a browser extension, script, or third party tool. They don't include human action or clicking the comment button, and they aren't allowed on LinkedIn. It's simple-automated comments aren't helpful to our members and don't provide much value. They flood comment sections and take away from otherwise authentic comments, which often can spark meaningful conversations and connections and help people learn, connect, and discover new opportunities.
We're taking a few key steps to improve the member experience. If we detect the use of automation tools, we may:
Not show detected automated comments in the Most Relevant comments and sometimes not show them outside the commenter's network
Restrict a member's ability to use LinkedIn
We're continuously improving detection and monitoring to stay ahead as these tools evolve.
Expanding Verifications
We started offering verifications to help members spot and show signals of trust on LinkedIn. Verifications play an important role in helping members better understand the people, companies, and jobs they engage with by showing that certain information has been confirmed and to help better understand their credibility. Over 100M members have added at least one verification to their profile.
While verifications have been available for a few years, we're continuing to increase signals of trust to make it easier to identify real people and real opportunities. Some recent updates include:
Making workplace verification mandatory for members adding recruiter job titles
Increasing the visibility of the verified badge on jobs
Enabling Page verification for all companies with a Premium Company Page subscription
The work to keep LinkedIn a trusted platform for professionals to find real people and real opportunities is ongoing. We'll continue to share updates from our teams working to support authentic content and conversations so you can find jobs, build your network, and learn from others.
