FIA Names AWS Official AI and Cloud Computing Partner

The F d ration Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced a global partnership under which AWS becomes the Official AI and Cloud Computing Partner of the FIA. The companies say the deal covers motor sport from grassroots up to Formula 1.

The FIA runs aerodynamic simulations for future single-seater regulations on AWS's high-performance computing technology. That lets the FIA test airflow around a car virtually without building physical parts, which it says allows faster innovation at lower cost and environmental impact. AWS will also give the FIA's technical and engineering teams AI tools to support the development of regulations on safety, performance and sustainability.

The partnership builds on the Digital Licensing Platform that AWS and the FIA launched last year. The platform simplifies licence administration for drivers, officials and volunteers and gives National Sporting Authorities (ASNs) tools to manage the sport. It is expanding to more ASNs with multilingual support, FIA University integration and licence renewal capabilities. The FIA will add event management and other tools for volunteers and officials. The FIA says this supports its goal of doubling global motor sport participation.

More FIA business applications and hosted services will move to AWS over the coming years as part of the federation's digital transformation, a commitment of FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem's manifesto.

AWS joins the FIA Global Partner Programme. It is also an Official Partner of the annual FIA Awards and of the FIA Sustainable Innovation Series (SIS), a global event platform run in cooperation with FIA World Championships.
