Berlin, October 29, 2024 - The entire fate of the Habsburg Empire rests in Elisabeths (Devrim Lingnau) hands. But the second born child is a girl too. The hopes of the people, the imperial couple, and Empress Mother Sophie (Melika Foroutan) in particular, are left unfulfilled. A male heir would have ensured political stability and the continuation of the empire. The pressure on Elisabeth increases, while she fights for her love for Emperor Franz (Philip Froissant), for her daughters, and - against all conventions - to be an empress who gives people hope.

The first crisis is barely over and the young couple wants to enjoy their fresh marital bliss when dark clouds gather over Sch nbrunn Palace: Franz (Philip Froissant) unexpectedly faces a powerful adversary in Europe. And Elisabeth (Devrim Lingnau) comes under great pressure, because an heir to the throne is to secure the future of the empire as quickly as possible.
When fate strikes with all its power, the couples love threatens to finally break apart. And Elisabeth must fight not only for her family, but also for the integrity of her soul...
About Sommerhaus Filmproduktion
Since 2015, Jochen Laube and Fabian Maubach have jointly led Sommerhaus Filmproduktion. Their completed projects include feature films such as In den G ngen (Berlinale Competition 2018) and Was uns nicht umbringt (world premiere at the Piazza in Locarno 2018), as well as television productions like Dominik Grafs Tatort: Der rote Schatten and Katharina Eyssens Netflix miniseries Zeit der Geheimnisse. The film adaptation of When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit captivated over a million cinema-goers and was awarded the Bavarian Film Prize and the German Film Award for Best Childrens Film.
The adaptation of Alfred D blins world-famous novel Berlin Alexanderplatz premiered at the Berlinale 2020 competition and won five Lolas at the German Film Awards, as well as a European Excellence Award for its film score. The first season of the historical series The Empress, created by showrunner Katharina Eyssen and directed by Katrin Gebbe and Florian Cossen, topped the global rankings for non-English language series after its spectacular debut on Netflix in September 2022. It also won the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series in 2023.
Shortly before the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the international TV series The Net - Game on the Edge, directed by Rick Ostermann, premiered, delving into the mafia-like dealings behind football. In early December 2022, a new collaboration with Thomas Stuber, Die stillen Trabanten, was released in cinemas. Currently, two more episodes of The Barcelona Crime (directed by Andreas Kleinert), Burhan Qurbanis new feature film kein Tier. so wild., and the second season of the Netflix series The Empress are in post-production.
