Boxx Atom systems are the staple ingredient of Australia's most popular reality shows

Sydney-based freelance camera assistant and technical director Afshin Jonaidi supplies the more high-profile reality TV productions in Australia. From the Great Australian Bake Off to My Kitchen Rules, The Voice to Zumbo's Just Desserts, Jonaidi is called on to provide a media village comprising monitors, routers and multiple HD wireless systems.

He began using Boxx Atom systems three years ago after being loaned a unit by a colleague on a shoot and he hasn't looked back.

One of the essentials for any wireless system on multi-cam shows is that the frequencies don't interfere, he says. With some systems you could use two or three units but when you start adding the fifth or sixth then it sometimes won't work. On The Voice, we are using seven Boxx Atoms and it's just so reliable. You could be shooting an introduction to a challenge and you can have all the cameras lined up side by side. The transmitters are less than half a metre apart. With some systems the signal will begin to fail at this point because the frequencies are too close to each other, so the unit keeps searching and doesn't lock. But with Boxx you can have all seven transmitters in a line and they pair and just work.

He adds, I can put five or six Boxx Atoms on one stand and they don't interfere with one another. With other systems I'd have to space them out a minimum of ten metres apart.

The other reason Jonaidi says he appreciates Boxx is the plug and play simplicity of its operation. I love that I can change the frequency in just a few seconds. I can change two receivers to communicate with one transmitter extremely quickly and easily.

Directors want a system that is rock solid and with no delay on the signal. That's what you get with Boxx.
