CBC Continues to Expand Commitment to the Hispanic Community

From a locally produced television program to the Internet to community events, Capitol Broadcasting Company holds a commitment to the Hispanic community in the Triangle as a high priority. FOX 50 Latino Marketing Specialist Ana Maria Bonell spearheads CBC's efforts which utilize the unique resources of many of our divisions.

For example, throughout the year FOX 50 and WRAL-TV take part in local events involving the Hispanic community. On-air talent emcee events and interact with community members. ZU, FOX 50's Mobile Entertainment unit, frequently appears at events to give attendees an interactive FOX 50 experience.

CBC proudly sponsors many Hispanic and Latino community events including the 2015 Day of the Dead 5K in Raleigh and the 15th Annual Hispanic Market Advantage Conference in Durham, both in October.

Even CBC radio is in on the action. CBC's 1550AM ESPN Deportes is the exclusive all-Spanish sports radio station in the Raleigh-Durham market.

Capitol Broadcasting created and produces HOLA North Carolina, a local bilingual lifestyle TV show. Under the direction of Bonell as Executive Producer, the program is a positive program focusing on Latino culture with segments including cooking, culture, health, finance, sports, and entertainment. HOLA NC highlights successful Latinos Leaders who are also positive role models for the community.

There is no better liaison for CBC to the Latino Community than Ana Maria Bonell, said FOX 50 Director of Local and New Media Sales Niel Sollod. At any event I attend with her, from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce meetings to fundraisers like the Tomorrow Fund Gala, everyone knows Ana Maria. She has been working hard to help us be even more visible and supportive to the vibrant Latino Community. Noticing on WRAL and HolaNC are just two examples. She cares deeply about the community and she is extremely passionate about what she does and her loyalty to CBC means that she wants us to the source that Latinos turn to for news, information and entertainment.

CBC features Hispanic and Latino community events through HOLA NC, as well as WRAL.com and FOX50.com. In fact, WRAL.com launched Noticias, the website's Hispanic and Latino hub, connecting visitors to the latest news, community events and more.

WRAL-TV and FOX 50 also formed a partnership with Qu Pasa, a local Spanish language newspaper. WRAL.com will provide Spanish language weather maps on Qu Pasa's website.

During National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15, 2015) FOX 50 celebrated with a series of weekly news stories, produced by WRAL-TV Anchor Reporter Leyla Sanitago. The stories were also featured on HOLA NC during the month. Santiago and WRAL-TV News Photographer Zac Gooch traveled to Texas to document the path of children coming into the United States and its impact on North Carolina. They shared their journey through news reports, a video blog, and the documentary The Journey Alone. The Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC) recently awarded the documentary second place in the News Documentary category.

In late September the pair spent two weeks in Cuba, exploring the links between the island nation and the United States. They were in Cuba for the Pope's visit, helped link some North Carolina connections, and put together an unprecedented documentary for WRAL, Inside Cuba. Santiago and Gooch attended a viewing party with Triangle residents to show the documentary and engage in a discussion.
