If you walked through METexpo 2025 this week, you probably noticed the buzz around METexpo TV. Yes, the coverage looked slick and polished. But what's really exciting isn't just what you saw on screen, it's who was behind it, and how they pulled it off.
This wasn't your typical live broadcast operation. It was entirely powered by students from TAFE NSW and Auckland University of Technology, working shoulder to shoulder with our industry partners. These students weren't just helping out. They were running the show, producing, directing, operating cameras, editing, and delivering live content each day of the event.
And the tech behind it? 100% GV Media Universe.
At Grass Valley, we talk a lot about open, cloud-native production. METexpo TV was a real-world example of what that looks like in practice, and it couldn't have been more rewarding to see it in action.
With AMPP (our Agile Media Processing Platform) at the core, students used the same toolset trusted by leading broadcasters around the world. They handled everything from ingest to playout, all within a secure, software-defined environment. It was fast, flexible, and most importantly relevant to where the industry is headed.
This wasn't a simulation. This was a full-on, professional-grade production. And the students nailed it.
The magic of METexpo TV wasn't just about AMPP or Grass Valley. It was about the wider GV Media Universe and the strength of our alliances here in ANZ. Working closely with GV AMPP Alliance Partners, we pulled together a solution that was robust, scalable, and built for real-time broadcast demands.
Corrivium handled the integration and technical ops, ensuring everything ran smoothly behind the scenes.
Layer Cake enabled lightning-fast deployment of the virtual infrastructure and provided streaming distribution for the event.
Sharon AI brought next-gen compute resources into the fold, giving students room to experiment with AI-enhanced workflows.
AI Media provided automated transcription and captioning services
Associated Press Facilitated content creation with their next generation story-centric news production system
Cannon provided streamlined Comer operations with their AMPP integrated PTZs
Each partner played a unique role. And together, they brought the GV Media Universe to life, not as a pitch, but as a working, breathing broadcast environment.
Let's be honest: there's a big difference between learning about media production and doing it.
That's why this initiative matters so much. METexpo TV gave students a real seat at the table. They weren't just being taught, they were being trusted. With support from TAFE NSW, AUT, and our engineers at Grass Valley, they were able to step confidently into high-pressure roles: from field reporting and mobile journalism to directing live studio segments.
Some of them even integrated content shot on phones into the cloud workflow, proof of just how flexible and modern this pipeline really is.
METexpo TV wasn't just a student project, it was a working demonstration of where our industry is heading and how we get there. Its great to see SMPTE sharing this vision and driving initiatives of this type to help new talent develop within the industry. . . When education, technology, and industry align like this, everyone wins. Students get real-world skills, partners get a chance to collaborate and innovate, and we all move the needle on what's possible in live production.
I'm proud of what we achieved at METexpo 2025, and even more excited about where this kind of collaboration can take us next.
