Comprimato adds JPEG-XS to industry-leading live transcoding platform posted: 13/03/2023
NAB2023 demonstration of high performance live encoding applications
Comprimato, the specialist in high performance software encoding and transcoding, will show the latest version of its Live Transcoder software at NAB 2023 (meeting room W2378, Las Vegas Convention Center, 16 - 19 April). Already widely used for JPEG2000 contribution circuits, Live Transcoder also supports NDI, and now Comprimato has added JPEG-XS TR-07, making it the most powerful and flexible solution for high performance connectivity.

The unique solution developed by Comprimato uses the massively parallel processing power of standard GPUs, which means uncompromised quality for broadcast contribution and distribution circuits can be achieved with encoding and transcoding appliances on premises or in the cloud. This COTS approach not only achieves the highest quality at a significantly lower price point than other approaches, it also means that the software can be implemented in conjunction with other vendors' software.
At Comprimato we were leaders in the use of visually lossless JPEG2000 for long-distance contribution circuits, said Jiri Matela, CEO of Comprimato. That continues to prove highly effective, but as JPEG-XS has reached maturity in the VSF TR-07 transport stream, so there is growing interest in this lightweight, low latency codec, and we have moved to add it to the Live Transcoder environment.

Our open architecture also allows us to collaborate with other vendors, including AJA Video Systems and InSync, who will both be at NAB, Matela continued. Broadcasters and production companies working in live events and remote production demand the highest quality, including Ultra HD, with as low latency as possible. Working with partners like these we can provide a single touch solution that delivers crystal clear image quality at the optimum bitrate: a very attractive offering for users.
Comprimato staff will be on hand during NAB to discuss both technical considerations around transcoding for contribution circuits and the flexible business models on offer for on premises and cloud implementations. On the AJA Video Systems booth (W2600) the Comprimato Bridge Live encoder will be demonstrated as part of a low latency remote production system.
