Take on anything with Sennheiser's action camera microphone

At IFA, Sennheiser will preview a forthcoming microphone for GoPro cameras. Designed to be the ideal audio partner to a GoPro camera in its ultra-tough housing, the audio specialist's new microphone helps adventurous users go further - adding fantastic sound quality to their breathtaking footage. The Sennheiser microphone has been created to go anywhere that a GoPro can, easily withstanding adverse conditions such as wind, water, snow and splashes of mud.

Due to its advanced capsule design, special windshield and watertight connection with the camera housing, the action microphone will even be able to record audio under water. The microphone will allow GoPro users to capture fantastic sound in scenarios where audio recording currently yields poor results - or is not possible at all. The action camera microphone is expected to become available from March 2017.

MKE 440 - the best sound for your DSLR

Also on show at IFA is Sennheiser's all-new MKE 440, an innovative stereo camera microphone for DSLRs, which uses a new stereo arrangement to capture focused stereo sound from within the camera's field of view. As well as being the most compact stereo shotgun microphone on the market, this breakthrough approach helps solve a typical challenge encountered by DSLR users - getting great stereo sound from a camera mounted mic.

The MKE 440 employs two mini-shotguns mounted in a V-shape arrangement that predominantly pick up the sound from within the direction of filming, rejecting the majority of off-axis noise from outside the camera focus. It thus succeeds where classic stereo set-ups struggle, as they also capture sound and noises from the sides.

The result is a well-balanced mix between ambient sound and clearly comprehensible speech and dialogue, explains Achim Gleissner.

Transform smartphones and tablets into professional recording tools

IFA will provide an early view of another forthcoming Sennheiser product: the HandMic digital - a new rugged microphone that's ideal for capturing high-quality vocal recordings on mobile devices. The HandMic digital uses an Apogee A/D converter and pre-amp to translate sound into the digital realm, while maintaining the famed Sennheiser quality and presence. As a mic designed for mobile use, this cardioid dynamic handheld is highly resistant to EMI/cell phone interference and therefore ideal for mobile journalism, podcasting or vocal and instrument recording.

Achim Gleissner explains: Users are increasingly relying on their mobile devices for recording speech and vocals, but the built-in microphones leave much to be desired. Sennheiser's HandMic digital is an ideal, easy-to-use tool to upgrade your sound. The HandMic digital will be available from October 2016.
