PLAYING HLOMU CAME WITH CHALLENGES' The talented actress Mbali Mavimbela, who plays Hlomu in The Wife tells Daily Sun that playing Hlomu came with its own challenges as she had to get therapy.

Playing Hlomu came with its own challenges. It was nothing I expected to relate to her at first. but when I got into her character, I was absorbed so much that I couldn't separate myself from her. I found myself thinking like Hlomu even when I was on set. Getting into her character came so naturally so much that I found myself struggling to get out of character.

Mavimbela adds that it is for this reason that she had to get therapy and find support so that she could live her life again.

I had to separate Hlomu from Mbali. There were also other challenges in terms of storyline, work, and trying to find myself as this was my first big break.

The 25-year-old actress adds that season one of The Wife was the hardest for her and an eye-opener for her because the focus was on her.

THE WIFE VIEWERS HAD THEIR OWN VERSIONS' The role was also challenging for Mavimbela because viewers of the telenovela had their version of Hlomu from the books.

I prepared myself according to their version. It was a roller-coaster ride but pushed through. In season two, I was calm. I understood Hlomu's storyline well.

The actress also tells Daily Sun that she's grateful for the character because it healed a lot of women.

I say this from time to time because women tell me that they can relate to Hlomu and that they healed.
