Mammoth Screen options Trapeze's Grime Kids by DJ Target, with award-winning playwright Theresa Ikoko set to adapt Company News July 24, 2018

Leading production company Mammoth Screen has optioned the television rights to Grime Kids by DJ Target from Marium Raja at No Chiefs and Richard King at Orion.

Executive Producers for Mammoth are Tom Leggett (71', Room) Preethi Mavahalli (NW, The City & the City) and Damien Timmer (Poldark, Endeavour)

DJ Target grew up in Bow under the shadow of Canary Wharf, with money looming close on the skyline. The Godfather of Grime' Wiley and Dizzee Rascal first met each other in his bedroom. They were all just grime kids on the block back then, and didn't realise they were to become pioneers of an international music revolution. A movement that permeated deep into British culture and beyond. Household names were borne out of those housing estates, and the music industry now jumps to the beat of their gritty reality rather than the tune of glossy aspiration. Target's book reveals its explosive and expansive journey in full, using his own unique insight and drawing on the input of grime's greatest names.

DJ Target has solidified his reputation as a respected broadcaster, international club & festival Dj and author, holding cultural relevance across two decades. Beginning his career spinning records at pirate station Rinse FM, Target became actively involved in the UK Garage scene with Pay As U Go Cartel, and soon after made the natural progression into long-time friend Wiley's Grime collective Roll Deep. Today, alongside his weekly shows on BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra, DJ Target is the Talent & Music Lead at BBC 1Xtra, and also runs his own record label Pitched Up.

Theresa Ikoko was born and raised in Hackney, London. In August 2013, she completed her first full-length play, Normal, which debuted at Talawa Firsts' 2014 season. Normal was also chosen for Tricycle Theatre's young writers' programme and was selected for Critical Mass at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry. Her play, Visiting Hours, was chosen for Belgrade Theatre's The New Black Showcase in 2014. Her first professionally produced play, Girls, was shortlisted for the Verity Bargate Award 2015 and won the Alfred Fagon Award 2015.
