The production infrastructure scaled seamlessly from regular-season games to the league's midseason showcase
NBC is relying on NEP Group in delivering its first NBA All-Star Weekend in 24 years. With seven NEP mobile units and an arsenal of specialty cameras on hand, NEP is at the center of the operation at Intuit Dome this weekend.
TFC, NEP Trucks Are at the Core of NBC's NBA Operations
Returning to broadcasting the NBA this season, NBC faced a daunting logistics challenge: delivering consistent, high-quality coverage across a punishing schedule that often features Sunday Night Basketball followed by doubleheaders on Monday and Tuesday each week. For the NBA All-Star Game, that challenge multiplied exponentially.
To help meet the challenge, NEP Media Services combined its Total Facility Control (TFC) technology with strategic deployment of multiple mobile units, creating a production infrastructure that scaled seamlessly from regular-season games to the league's marquee midseason showcase.
From left: NEP's Nick Dell'Omo, Michael Pean, Dave Greany at NBA All-Star 2026 Shows like this are exactly where TFC really shines, says Nick Dell'Omo, development manager, NEP. We're able to spin up more than 200 signals in an afternoon. There's no more lugging cable, accidentally cross-patching, or any of that.
NBC has rolled out seven NEP mobile units to serve its NBA All-Star production needs at Intuit Dome: Supershooter 10 and ST 10, Supershooter 4 A/B/C, and Supershooter 12 and ST 12. With significantly more cameras and nearly three times the EVS replay systems of a standard NBA on NBC A game, NBC deployed TFC to bring it all together.
Supershooter 10 is the driving engine for Supershooter 4, says Michael Pean, VP, sales, NEP Media Services. The Supershooter 4 production-control room is basically driven by Supershooter 10.
With TFC linking the trucks, NEP provided NBC a larger control room in Supershooter 4 while using Supershooter 10's control room for transmission and technical management. Says Pean, It gave us extra space, extra footprint but, with TFC, seamlessly works as one unit.
Supershooter 12 A unit houses production of the onsite studio show, while ST12 provides overflow seating and engineering resources. Supershooter 4 C, parked in an ancillary lot outside the arena, primarily serves as an equipment hauler.
Located in a nearby parking lot, Supershooter 6 and ST6 - typically part of the NBA on NBC fleet - are on hand to serve the NBA world-feed production.
TFC quickly demonstrated its value when the world-feed crew arrived on Tuesday after covering a Lakers game at nearby Crypto.com arena. They came right over here, parked upstairs for the world game, and that day were seeing signals, Dell'Omo explained. [TFC] is designed to make the existing workflow even easier and to allow any new creativity that our clients will come up with to be easily put in place.
TFC's distance-agnostic design meant location didn't matter: whether trucks were positioned 100 ft. or a mile apart, capabilities remained identical. This has been a significant help since the world-feed truck is located several hundred yards from the main compound.
A crucial advantage of the setup is that production teams can work with familiar equipment despite the expanded scale.
The All-Star Game represents the high-water mark of a demanding inaugural season for NBC's NBA coverage. Once Sunday Night Basketball begins, the schedule becomes relentless: Sunday games, Peacock doubleheaders on Monday, and NBC Coast to Coast doubleheaders on Tuesday - essentially requiring five trucks minimum.
That's where I think the backbone of this came about, Pean says. All the trucks are TFC, and all the control rooms in the A units are pretty much identical from a production standpoint.
Standardization provides crucial flexibility, allowing NBC to position trucks economically rather than shuttling mobile units cross-country between games every week.
NBC has been respectful of the All-Star relationship that has been in place for years, says NEP Senior Project Engineer Dave Greany, who worked seven NBA All-Stars with TNT. But they also are making it their own. They're tweaking things the way they want it to be and working with the NBA to create the best possible show.
NEP Specialty Capture: Nucleus Cameras Join Arsenal of Capture Tools
In addition to mobile units onsite, NEP Specialty Capture (formerly Fletcher) is on hand at Intuit Dome with an array of systems.
As usual for high-profile NBA on NBC broadcasts, four Sony HDC-P50 cameras (with 14X Canon lenses) are mounted on both baskets: two above-the-rim (ATR) systems running at 2X slow-motion and two behind-the-glass (BTG) systems running at 6X slo-mo.
Additionally, several Panasonic 150 all-in-one cameras cover hallways and other secondary locations.
Among the additions are Proton POV cameras at the announce table. It's a Proton zoom on a little micro robo head, so you have pan, tilt, zoom, focus, says Ed Andrzejewski, program manager, NEP Specialty Capture. People have been happy with the quality of the Proton cameras.
The division formerly known as AVS, now part of NEP Specialty Capture, is also providing 4X-slo-mo cameras for the Supracam and Steadicam systems, as well as an additional Steadicam unit capable of going both inside and outside the arena. It is also serving the NBA Live Production & Entertainment show with an ARRI Trinity cinema camera, AGITO modular RF dolly, and two RF Steadicams.
NBC has rolled out seven NEP mobile units to serve its NBA All-Star production needs at Intuit Dome. The star of the show, though, has to be the Nucleus camera from Antelope. The small 4K high-frame-rate camera functions both as a continuous live feed and a replay source.
The neat thing when
