ZTL Productions: Transforming VR Storytelling with Mistika VR and Boutique

Founded by Michael Vincent and Jenna West, two innovative minds with backgrounds in filmmaking and fashion photography, Hollywood-based ZTL Productions is on a mission to push the boundaries of immersive storytelling with Mistika VR and Mistika Boutique.

ZTL Productions combines Michael's extensive experience as an editor in VR and film with Jenna's creative vision and expertise in the photography and fashion industry. In their work they like to experiment with new techniques and push the boundaries of VR storytelling. Their portfolio includes VR fashion shows for Vogue and projects featuring supermodels like Cindy Crawford and Kendall Jenner. During the pandemic, they directed a VR documentary with Val Kilmer and created VR experiences on the famous Hollywood Blvd.

Mistika VR and Boutique at the heart of ZTL's pipeline

Mistika VR and Boutique are integral to ZTL Productions' post-production pipeline. They usually start the process with importing footage into Mistika VR, where precise calibration and optical flow stitching takes place. This is particularly crucial for projects with significant camera movement or complex backgrounds.

I love how I can just save the Mistika VR project and simply bring the environment into Boutique where the fun really begins, shares Michael. The powerful vector paint and cloning tools enable meticulous object removal and seamless integration of live-action and virtual elements. The ability to color grade and experiment with different looks enhances the visual storytelling, allowing for unique and compelling VR experiences.

The support team at SGO is incredible. During lockdown, Carlos and Daniel from SGO assisted me late into the night, creating a custom stitch for my footage and even providing a detailed video tutorial. Their support was invaluable.

Vector Paint and Cloning Tool: Essential for removing unwanted objects like tripods in stereoscopic VR, maintaining a clean and immersive environment.

Stitching Templates: The automatic and accurate stitching profiles in Mistika VR save time and ensure high-quality results, a significant improvement over older stitching methods.

Kaleidoscope Effect: Utilizing the kaleidoscope effect creatively within VR provides a new dimension to visual storytelling, making use of VR's full potential for immersive experiences.

Innovating in Unity and live-action integration

One of ZTL Productions' ambitious projects involves creating a fashion VR film that blends a Unity-built virtual world with live-action actors filmed against a green screen. This process requires meticulous planning and execution, with Mistika Boutique playing a crucial role in keying, integrating, and color grading the final footage. The result is a seamless fusion of real and virtual elements, creating a unique and immersive fashion experience.
