Nina the nano is a World First for Veterinary Specialists Anderson Moores

Anderson Moores are a referral centre focusing on soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, cardiology, oncology and dermatology for cats and dogs. They needed a solution to the logistical bottle neck they were facing in their surgical unit, where patients needed to be imaged out of theatre both pre- and post-surgery. The solution was the Fujifim FDR nano mobile x-ray unit, which the team quickly nicknamed Nina!

We were looking for a solution that would give us excellent image quality, was compact and easy to use, and good value for money said Petra Agthe, Head of Imaging. The Fujifim FDR nano met all of our criteria and more. Because the unit is so compact it is used in our lead lined theatre, meaning we no longer have to move surgical patients for imaging. This gives us more flexibility, a more efficient workflow and also means less disruption for the main x-ray room. The Virtual Grid technology negates the need for a physical grid, and multiple images can be stored on the D-EVO II detector. This allows us to use the detector in our conventional x-ray room too, and the images are then processed when the detector is returned to the FDR nano.

All of our orthopaedic surgical cases need post-operative imaging, and the new mobile x-ray unit has given us a much more efficient process and improved clinical conditions. said Andy Moores, Orthopaedic Surgeon. Not only does it provide an instant image at the table, but by imaging in theatre we are decreasing the time under anaesthetic and also minimising infection risk because we are not moving the patient. Occasionally we will also need to x-ray during a surgical procedure, and the FDR nano is extremely useful in these situations.

We have seen significantly improved image quality, especially for thoracic and abdominal images, and particularly in large patients said Katherine Airey, Radiographer. We are working with Fujifilm to fine-tune some of the processing algorithms for the veterinary market, but overall I am extremely happy with the image quality and versatility. The unit is very easy to manoeuvre, offers excellent value for money, and the service from Fujifilm has been fast and efficient.
