NewTek Announces Winners of its Inaugural NewTek UK Education Awards posted: 21/02/2018
Awards recognise excellence in creating inspiring videos and live streams by students and staff at colleges and universities across the country
NewTek is pleased to announce the recipients of the first ever NewTek UK Education Awards. Launched in October 2017, the awards recognise excellence in creating engaging videos or live streams, by students and staff at colleges and universities across the country, using NewTek technology. The awards were open to any UK educational establishment, faculty or student, and content entries were accepted from any of the following categories: Media Production, Sports, News and Community, Teaching Materials and Distance Learning.
The winners are:
Best Video 2018 - The Mary Rose Live: Human Endeavours by BSc (Hons) Television and Broadcasting students at University of Portsmouth The Mary Rose Live
Best E-Learning UK Content - Good 2 Learn: Fractions ESTV by Creative Media Production students at Grimsby Institute Good 2 Learn
Best Existing UK Content - Ganda-boys: Live from Middlesex University by TV-Studios Television Production at Middlesex University Ganda-Boys
UK Tutor of the Year - Charlie Watts, BSc (Hons) Television and Broadcasting course leader at University of Portsmouth
Best New UK Content - The Mary Rose Live: Human Endeavours by BSc (Hons) Television and Broadcasting students at University of Portsmouth
There are many institutions/companies that offer awards for particular types of films, but we have often found that the types of live TV shows our students produce is not necessarily in any particular award category, so we jumped at the opportunity to enter the NewTek UK Education Awards. I'm delighted the Mary Rose programme has been selected by NewTek because it represents the absolute pinnacle of what students can achieve, and it reveals the lengths that university staff will go to when trying to provide an outstanding student experience comments Charlie Watts, BSc (Hons) Television and Broadcasting course leader at University of Portsmouth.
The judges and I were impressed with the incredible original content we saw being created in the education sector using NewTek technology, adds Chris Waddington, senior director of Sales for NewTek. NewTek is passionate about encouraging the next generation of media professionals, and the NewTek UK Education Awards is testament to that. We are excited to continue to support students, colleges and universities as they push the boundaries of their creativity, and to give them the tools to tell their unique stories to the world.
University of Portsmouth, winners of the Best Video 2018 award, will receive a certificate and plaque during an awards presentation at BVE Expo 2018. The awards ceremony will take place on the NewTek stand (M34) on Wednesday 28th February at 11.00. Students from the University of Portsmouth will also enjoy two days of in-depth technical training on-site and demos of the latest NewTek products.
NewTek will also demonstrate its advanced IP Series, software-driven, modular video production systems at BVE 2018 on Stand M34. Plus, for the first time in the UK, NewTek will showcase the Connect Spark IP video converters and NDI PTZ camera. The new NewTek-Vizrt IP Graphics Server, TriCaster TC1 with MediaDS and 3Play 3P1 will also be on show.
