From new technologies to flash mobs, this year's keynote speaker to our own Best of Show Awards, this is what's on the TVBEurope team's radar at IBC Show 2023

With IBC 2023 now less than 48 hours away, the TVBEurope team has put together a list of ten things we're most excited about seeing and doing at this year's show.
Artificial intelligence Everybody's talking about it, and we expect that to continue at IBC 2023. From metadata and content indexing to captioning, video production, and commentary, AI is the new kid on the block in the media technology industry. We're looking forward to hearing about how it will continue to be leveraged across multiple disciplines.
Virtual production No technology has become so integral to film and high-end TV as virtual production since the start of the decade. As it continues to be adopted across both broadcast and pro AV, we're excited to see it action on the show floor.
5G TVBEurope first looked at 5G and its impact on the media and entertainment industry back in 2019. While adoption hasn't quite been as fast as we expected, industry vendors are beginning to integrate it into their technology, particularly those focusing on remote production.
Sustainability During last week's sustainability-as-a-service webinar, Geoff Woolf, lead project manager, sustainability at the BBC, told us that he has tasked every member of staff attending IBC to bring up the subject during their vendor meetings. Technology vendors need to be working hand in hand with broadcasters and producers to reduce the industry's carbon footprint, and it should be a major topic of conversation at the show.
Cloud You can't have a media technology trade show without talking about the cloud. It's becoming ever more integral to every part of a broadcaster or streaming service's workflow.
#ibcflashmobentry On Saturday morning Rise, GalsNGear and Women in Streaming are joining forces for a special flash mob to unite the women of the media tech industry. It's an opportunity for everyone to come together and show their support, and the organisers hope it will forge new connections, foster camaraderie, and create a vibrant new tradition at IBC. Register to attend here.
IBC Show Keynote Creative technologist, illusionist and mixed reality pioneer Marco Tempest will give the keynote address at IBC 2023 Conference on Saturday lunchtime.
Tempest is known for driving advances in future technologies, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) to develop new immersive experiences, and is a creative technologist at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory; Directors Fellow Alumni at MIT Media Lab; and founder of the science, illusion and digital technology consortium magicLab.
His session, Virtual Production & the Metaverse: A future where everyone is invited to play', is open to all show attendees and will see Tempest discuss generative AI, mixed reality, storytelling, gestural sensing and swarm robotics to offer a tantalising glimpse of an augmented future. The keynote will demonstrate live on stage how you can interact with new tech in a virtual world and how this new field can be accessible and equitable.
TVBEurope's Best of Show Awards One of the highlights for the TVBEurope team (and in fact all of Future's participating brands) is when we get to give out our Best of Show at IBC 2023 Awards.
There's nothing quite like arriving at a winner's stand and the look of joy that spreads across their faces as they realise why we're there. It's also great to see the winning placards on display as we're dashing around to meetings. Look out for them while you're at the show on Sunday and Monday, and we'll be revealing all of the winners early next week.
The new IBC Tech Zone A must-see on the show floor this year is the new Tech Zone in Hall 8, which promises to showcase the forefront of creative technology, user-driven innovation, and groundbreaking research and development (R&D) in media technology .
As well as bringing together a diverse range of cutting-edge technologies with an emphasis on user-driven innovation, it also acts as a platform for R&D stage innovations that represent new concepts or paradigms and introduce new possibilities for creators, architects and suppliers.
Pick up your pass at the airport or train station! We think this is a brilliant innovation for IBC 2023. All attendees arriving in Amsterdam on Thursday and Friday can pick up their show pass from Schiphol airport (located in the arrivals hall by T4, opposite Starbucks); the Iamsterdam store in Grand Central Train Station; or at seven hotels around the city. Details are available here.
