AfriDocs - Sub-Saharan Africa Broadcast Presents Barefoot Revolution

AfriDocs continues to inspire with compelling and relevant television. This month, on the one year anniversary of the October, so-called Barefoot Revolution in Burkina Faso that saw President Compaor literally chased from his palace after trying to stand for a third term, AfriDocs is proud to present A Barefoot Revolution, the first film to be made about the events of October 2014.

AfriDocs will also be screening Captain Thomas Sankara, a powerful film that provides the political history of Burkina Faso, and in light of the recent coup and other developments in Burkina Faso, is more relevant than ever. The film is produced from archival footage of Sankara between 1983 and 1987.

Sankara - Africas Che Guevara' - was a Marxist, anti-imperialist revolutionary who, in four years in power, doubled the number of children in schools, reduced infant mortality, redistributed land from feudal landlords to peasants and planted 10 million trees that still help shade Ouagadougou, the capital. He was deposed in 1987 by his best friend and colleague, the recently ousted President Campaor , setting the stage for the most recent developments in the country.

The people's revolution from 30th October 2014 was recently put in danger by another coup last month, that the now arrested coup leader General Diendere admits was the biggest mistake'.

A Barefoot Revolution | Christian Carmosino | Burkina Faso | 2014 | 54 min

In October 2014 Burkina Faso's capital Ouagadougou is the theatre of massive demonstrations against the country's President, Blaise Compaor , and his attempt to change the Constitution in order to keep the power for 15 more years. As a result of his intransigence, the protest turns into a full revolution, lasting 6 days and nights and ending with Compaor 's departure, after a dictatorship of 27 years. A transitional government takes over and prepares the elections planned for October 2015.
