New Big Data Solutions provide Data Intensive Environments with Breakthrough Performance and Density Increase computational efficiencies and ease of deployment with new Lustre and Quantum StorNext integrated big bandwidth solutions from NetApp

SEATTLE, WA (November 14, 2011) - NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) today announced new solutions to better manage the scale of data growth and complexity created by high-bandwidth applications, such as those for research and computational modeling and simulation. As part of its continued investment in high performance computing (HPC), NetApp introduced two new Big Data solutions, based on the NetApp E-Series platform, to address Big Data requirements, giving organizations the ability to solve bandwidth and density challenges, realize immediate improvements in efficiencies and improve the time to results.

Big Data innovation is built on NetApp. Our solutions allow customers to breakthrough old performance barriers to unlock new insights, gain an unfair advantage with better, faster business decisions and create new business opportunities. With this announcement, NetApp adds to its portfolio of Big Data solutions designed to serve analytics, bandwidth and content repository requirements. The new solutions are designed to serve the needs of bandwidth-intensive needs in concert with the Lustre and Quantum StorNext parallel file systems.

The NetApp High Performance Computing Solution for Lustre is purpose-built to efficiently scale bandwidth and density with proven reliability to solve difficult research, modeling, and simulation problems. The solution shortens time to results and increases compute efficiency with a storage solution optimized for the Lustre file system. The High Performance Computing Solution for Lustre also eliminates data bottlenecks with 30GB/sec writes and reduces power, cooling and operational costs by maximizing disk drive performance in less rack space.

The NetApp Seismic Processing Solution provides efficient access to big data generated by seismic processing operations to help exploration teams make optimal decisions. The high density E-Series platform supports 1.8PB in each industry-standard 40U rack. The solution manages high-bandwidth seismic processing operations with Quantums StorNext file system, and is purpose-built to allow for increased productivity and the confidence to deploy quickly with proven, always-on technology, backed by global support.
