The Apollo Weekend Film Show, scheduled for the last weekend in October, paves the way for the revival of the once famous annual Apollo Film Festival. With a vibrant approach, the adoption of a strategic plan by a newly elected board of directors and exited patrons and filmmakers, The Apollo Weekend Film Show will give a preview of what can be expected from the reinstatement of the Apollo Annual Film Festival

After a dormant period of almost ten years, concerned members of the community organised an action group who took on the responsibility to replace a dysfunctional board of directors and started to ring fence the only known functional Art Deco Theatre in South Africa as an asset for the film industry and tourism attraction in the Karoo town of Victoria West.

An award-winning film Masquerading to Hell and Back by Sofia de Fay and other films including Nelisiwe Ngobenis' Guardian of the Ocean, Martin Jansen's Freedom Isn't Free, Fanyane Hlabangane s I Want To See For Myself and, Potyster Sweis Nie by Buks Rossouw to mention a few of the flicks that will be screened over the two day period.

Kids will also be entertained to a free screening of animated films from the Animation School on Saturday, 27 October. The free screening is aimed at encouraging a culture of cinema going at a young age and forms part of the broader ADA audience engagement strategy.

We expect attendance from the local communities of Victoria West, Loxton and Richmond, and also aim to reach audiences from as far as Oudtshoorn, Graaf Reinet, De Aar and Beaufort West said Khanzi

Victoria West and surrounding areas offer excellent accommodation for patrons and tourist who want to stay over for the weekend and enjoy the movies in this classic theatre, relax and visit the community and farmers market on Saturday morning.
