Sam Pilgrim Lands Gravity Mag Cover with GoPro Shot

Every one of us dreams of being on the cover of a magazine one day. GoPro athlete Sam Pilgrim actually accomplished it - again. His shot from the Suzuki Nine Knights Mountainbike in South Italy is on the cover of the November issue of Gravity Magazine. First, Sam said, they had just planned an article but then the guys were joking about a cover as well. Sam tried his best and always had the shot in his mind: All through Nine Knights, I was trying to make a cover shot and that one turned out. This is my favorite photo as well, so stoked they used that one."

The man in charge is Fabio Sch fer, CEO and founder of Germany's mountain bike magazine Gravity. We took the GoPro shot, because we wanted to make something totally different. First, we didn't know if the plan would work. But Sam and also the Gravity team were super motivated for that cover-and the effort was worth it, Fabio explains. Sam had attached a special mount to his helmet to get the shot, as the focus was getting Sam and his whole bike in the frame. Sam really tried hard. After seeing all of his great pictures, we decided to put a whip on the Cover. You can see Sam, his entire bike and you really get the feeling of the Airtime, says Fabio.

Fabio and Sam are in agreement: These days, GoPro is part of the standard equipment for riders. When you put all your stuff together for a day on the bike, beside a helmet and protectors you can also find a GoPro. It's just a great feeling when you had an awesome day on the bike, coming home and seeing all the great footage. Because of the low weight, different mounting options and app controls you have way more options than you had a few years ago, Fabio says.

Sam loves the fact that the camera is mounted really close to the body. For him everyone can capture pretty easily amazing moments and get rad stuff. You don't need to get a photographer for that day, you just can go out and then have all these images you can use on social media and stuff for free. So I mean it's the best thing ever, Sam says.

Although it's not his first cover shot, this one gets a special place. I got a few copies so maybe I can give it to my family and have them in every house so that I can see myself more often, he jokes.
