Berklee Signs Agreements with Six New Partners to Join Berklee International Network

The Berklee International Network (BIN), Berklee's global network consisting of academic partnerships around the world, has added new colleges and universities in Chile, England, France, India, Mexico, and the Netherlands, increasing its membership to 23 institutions in 22 countries. BIN members help to educate approximately 17,000 music students throughout the world.

Founded in 1993, the BIN is a shared endeavor designed to promote and advance the value of contemporary music education among its members throughout the world. The BIN develops programs and events that enrich the college's global reach, creating opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and alumni to connect with partner institutions. The network creates opportunities for students to develop their careers with a global focus, and to grow their skills through exposure to other cultures, diverse audiences, and master musicians.

We are excited to welcome these institutions to our international network. Our new partners will be a great asset to the network, and we look forward to collaborating with them on programming, said Matthew Nicholl, vice president for global initiatives at Berklee.

The new BIN partners include: Chile: Instituto Profesional Projazz Instituto Profesional Projazz was the first institution in Chile to create a professional jazz academic program (nine semesters long). Projazz was recognized as a professional institute by the Chilean Ministry of Education in 2007, more than 30 years after its establishment as a music academy and major contributor to Chile's artistic community. Located in the city of Santiago, Projazz has a student body of 480, and more than 70 faculty members among its professional and extension academic programs.

England: Leeds College of Music Leeds College of Music (LCoM) is a leading European conservatory and the largest in the United Kingdom. LCoM provides music education to a community of over 1,900 musicians through a variety of programs, including undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses, numerous short courses for all ages, and a Saturday music school for young musicians ages 9-18.

France: IMEP Paris College of Music Paris College of Music is a private school of music founded by the company of music education professionals IMEP (International Music Educators of Paris) whose faculty and staff bring with them decades of music education experience in France and elsewhere. In 2016, IMEP Paris College of Music opened its new facilities, equipped to provide the best possible learning experience for students and inspiring working conditions for faculty and visiting artists, in the heart of Paris.

India: Global Music Institute Global Music Institute (GMI) provides musicians with a full-time engagement in the professions and art of music. The first two years of the graduate diploma program are focused on establishing a foundation in the core elements of music, while the third year is for directed study, mentorship, career development, and student-led projects. Students learn to approach the field of music in a comprehensive and responsible manner, developing strong, professional habits, along with individual artistic identities that will enable them to navigate the many facets of a career in music.

Mexico: Rec M sica Centro de Estudios Musicales Rec M sica Centro de Estudios Musicales is a music college offering a wide variety of academic programs, degrees, and private instrument lessons. The college's mission is to develop music professionals committed to use their music skills to serve their communities. Adapting to the intellectual and cultural needs of society, the college promotes respect, passion for music, critical thinking, creativity, talent, and continuous effort as the core of the students' well-rounded existence in the productive world.

Netherlands: Conservatorium Haarlem Conservatorium Haarlem is a relatively small music conservatory specializing in pop and electronic music. Founded in the 1970s, it has a rich cultural history and, as of 2010, resides within the modern campus of Inholland University of Applied Science. Conservatorium Haarlem was one of the first conservatories in the Netherlands to introduce specific pop music education, and is the first and only conservatory to offer a specific educational program for electronic music.
