SA Indies Set to Cause a Splash at EFM 04

The Association for Transformation in Film and Television (ATFT) is proud to announce the first ever South African Indies stand at the European Film Market (EFM) 2014 in Berlin, Germany.

A delegation of South African filmmakers, which consists of emerging and mentoring producers, will embark on a trade mission to EFM. The team, functioning under the South African Indies banner, will arrive in Berlin on the 6th of February 2014 and will be operating from the first ever South African stand at the Market. The SA Indies Stand is located at stand no. 108 at the Marriott Hotel.

South African filmmakers will have a presence at Berlins European Film Market (EFM) for the first time this year. EFM market director Beki Probst said that she was particularly pleased to be able to welcome a delegation organised by the Association for Transformation in Film and Television (ATFT), which will have a stand in the Marriott Hotel.

The purpose of the trip is for South African producers to showcase and sell their films and works in any stage of development or production, to forge co-production partnerships, and also to participate in a global market and develop new audiences for South African content. The delegation will also market the country as one of the world's top production destinations.

The SA Indies delegation has been invited to attend a networking function at the South African Embassy, where they will interact with other industry players as a means of establishing professional relationships with key players based in Germany. They will also be taking a tour of the Berlin Talent Campus, attending the World Cinema Fund Day and taking part in a speed dating session facilitated by ATFT, where distributors and sales agents interested in the projects in the delegation's catalogue will spend 15 minutes with each producer getting to know them and their films at the SA Indies stand.

ATFT organised a so-called export market readiness workshops in December in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth) for potential delegates, to prepare them for attending the EFM in order to make the most of their time in Berlin.

The South African delegation was made possible by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)'s EMIA scheme and Wesgro, the Western Cape investment and trade promotion agency.
