Wayne, N.J., August 19, 2026 Phantom High-Speed announces the new S980, an 8-megapixel machine vision camera designed for applications that require both ultra high-speed imaging and rapid access to image data. Combining Phantoms proven image quality with native CoaXPress over Fiber connectivity, the S980 enables high-speed image acquisition for machine vision, biomedical, defense, industrial, and OEM applications where timing, throughput, and system integration are critical. Built around a global shutter backside-illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor, the S980 delivers up to 1,075 fps at full 3840 2160 resolution and up to 74,808 fps at reduced resolutions while streaming image data directly into host systems.
As advanced imaging systems become increasingly dependent on real-time analysis and automated decision-making, engineers need more than high frame rates alone. Todays applications require cameras that integrate seamlessly into larger architectures, delivering image data where it can be processed, analyzed, and transformed into actionable information. The S980 was developed to address these evolving requirements while maintaining the image quality and reliability expected from Phantom.
High-Speed Imaging for Data-Driven Applications
Built around the ForzaFAST581 BSI CMOS global shutter sensor, the S980 combines high spatial resolution with the temporal precision required to capture fast-moving events. The sensor delivers low-noise performance, high sensitivity, and artifact-free imaging, enabling accurate measurements and detailed analysis across a wide range of scientific, industrial, and machine vision applications.
Fiber-Native Connectivity for Modern Systems
The S980 features dual 40G QSFP+ interfaces supporting CoaXPress over Fiber, providing a high-bandwidth connection between camera and host system. Designed for environments that rely on image-based analysis and high-throughput workflows, the S980 enables rapid transfer of image data into processing architectures used for automation, instrumentation, and advanced research.
Designed for OEM and Embedded Integration
Engineered for deployment inside larger systems, the S980 combines a compact form factor with extensive integration capabilities. GPIO functionality, timecode support, synchronization features, metadata streaming, and flexible mounting options help simplify implementation within machine vision platforms, biomedical instruments, automated test systems, and embedded applications.
Built for Advanced Imaging Applications
The S980 is designed to support a broad range of applications where high-speed image acquisition plays a critical role in analysis and decision-making. Potential use cases include image-based cytometry and biomedical instrumentation, defense and aerospace testing, industrial inspection and quality control, OEM platforms, embedded vision systems, and research environments requiring near real-time image analysis.
Part of the Phantom Ecosystem
More than a machine vision camera, the S980 is part of Phantoms broader imaging ecosystem. Customers can leverage Phantom Cine Analyzer software, Phantom Academy training, application-specific consulting, and Phantoms global support organization to accelerate deployment and maximize the value of captured image data. Whether supporting a single instrument or a large-scale integration program, Phantom provides the tools and expertise needed to support long-term success.
