Saxophone Legend Gary Bartz to Perform with Berklee Artists at 13th Annual Global Jazz Summit The concert will honor BGJI alumni and include several performances dedicated to influential women in celebration of Women's History Month.

The Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) presents its 13th annual Berklee Global Jazz Summit, featuring special guest saxophonist Gary Bartz as well as original compositions from BGJI faculty, alumni, visiting artists, and students, at the Berklee Performance Center on Thursday, March 24, at 8:00 p.m.

Hosted by BGJI founder and Grammy-winning composer and pianist Danilo P rez, this year's concert honors the accomplishments of several acclaimed members of the BGJI community, with performances dedicated to influential women in celebration of Women's History Month. Other featured artists include renowned Berklee faculty Terri Lyne Carrington and John Patitucci, as well as P rez with his new band the Global Messengers.

This is a celebration of planetary humanism and of music's ability to reimagine our world.

For over a decade, the summit has brought together an eclectic cross section of talent and culture with the goal of creating a shared space of inclusion, forming a common language through which artists can communicate, inspire, and ultimately develop an authentic sense of our connected humanity. Compositions in this year's lineup reflect the essential role that indigenous instruments and pan-African influences have played in the evolution of global jazz.

The Global Jazz Summit as an event is much more than a celebration of music, said P rez, who serves as a UNESCO artist for peace and a cultural ambassador of his native Panama. This is a celebration of planetary humanism and of music's ability to reimagine our world. As a global society, we face enormous challenges that can only be solved if we are working as one. The summit is a testament to the power of music to build an international community and show us what is possible when we connect on a human-to-human level.

Bartz is widely regarded as one of the preeminent alto saxophone players in jazz, having worked with icons such as Art Blakey, McCoy Tyner, and Miles Davis. He has recorded more than 40 solo albums and has appeared on over 200 albums as a guest artist.

The Berklee Performance Center is located at 136 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston. Admission is $15 in advance, $10 on the day of the show, and $5 day-of with a Berklee ID. Tickets are available online and at the Berklee Performance Center box office. This is a seated event. The concert will also be viewable online via Livestream.

Berklee Live Event Attendance Policy Masks will be required indoors, regardless of vaccination or negative test status. You must bring your own mask and wear it over your nose and mouth; N95, KN95, KF94, 3-ply surgical mask, or a surgical mask doubled with a cloth mask are preferred to keep patrons safe.
