Berklees American Roots Music Program Celebrates 10 Years

Founded in 2009, Berklees American Roots Music Program explores American music of the first half of the 20th century, with a focus on rural music, and has helped to launch the careers of many of today's most acclaimed Americana performers.

In celebration of the program's 10th anniversary, Matt Glaser, the programs artistic director, has assembled a host of alumni, faculty, and students for a thrilling concert that will feature collaborations between artists in styles as varied as blues, bluegrass, Celtic, country, gospel, early jazz, folk, old-time, spirituals, and western swing.

Performers will include alumni who passed through the program and have gone on to successful careers. The artist lineup consists of Sierra Hull '11 and Molly Tuttle B.M. '14, The Goodbye Girls, The Lonely Heartstring Band, Mile Twelve, Twisted Pine, Molsky's Mountain Drifters, and Jenna & M iri (Jenna Moynihan B.M. '13 and M iri Chaimbeul B.M. '16).

Faculty and visiting artists who frequently work with students from the program will also join the celebration. These will include Donna McElroy and the Jubilee Spirit Ensemble, Greg Liszt, Tony Trischka, Jerron Blind Boy Paxton, Darol Anger, Kevin Barry, Joe K. Walsh, Paul Rishell, Annie Raines, Laura Orshaw, and Woody Mann.

The program draws on the knowledge of a board of advisors that includes B la Fleck, David Grisman, Keb' Mo', Ricky Skaggs, Liz Carroll, Marty Stuart, and Leo Kottke, among others.

The Berklee Signature Series presents the Berklee American Roots Music Program 10th Anniversary celebration on Tuesday, March 12, 7:30 p.m., at the Berklee Performance Center, located at 136 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston. Tickets are available now at the Berklee Performance Center box office and online.
