Talvin Singh joins line-up for Pro7ect songwriting retreat

Mercury Prize winner added to Pro7ect's 2018 songwriting retreat line-up

The people behind Pro7ect - the acclaimed songwriting retreat in Brighton, UK - have announced that Mercury Music Prize winner Talvin Singh is joining the 2018 producer line-up.

An accomplished composer, producer, Tabla player and electronic musician, Singh is regarded by many as the father of modern Asian music thanks to his innovative fusion of Indian classical music and drum and bass. Singh won the Mercury Music Prize in 1999 for his debut solo album OK and has collaborated with many artists including David Sylvian, Bj rk, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Madonna and Massive Attack.

Usually based in Suffolk where he has his own studio, Talvin Singh will relocate to Brighton's Hotel Pelirocco for the duration of Pro7ect's next retreat, which runs from 19th - 23rd February 2018. There he will take up residence in the Prism Sound pop up studio - a fully equipped recording facility featuring a selection of the company's state of the art digital audio interfaces and converters that are already a key part of Singh's own recording set up.

Songwriters and artists taking part in Pro7ect 2018 will have the opportunity to work with A-List producers to write, record and produce great music. The line-up for 2018 already includes Iain Archer, who has won two Ivor Novello Awards for songwriting on Snow Patrols Final Straw album and James Bay's Hold Back The River. Participants work in one of four pop-up studios at Hotel Pelirocco, each of which is equipped with the latest recording technology from manufacturers such as Prism Sound, PMC, Focusrite/Novation, Roland and Audio Technica.

The Pro7ect experience is highly collaborative and often results in a large volume of material being written and recorded. In 2017, for example, 20 songs were written and recorded in just four days. Six of these songs were optioned by artists and publishers less than a week after the event concluded.
