Kim Burrell Meets Berklee

The Signature Music Series at Berklee kicks off its spring 2015 season on February 12 with Kim Burrell Meets Berklee, featuring the Grammy Award-nominated pastor. Pastor Burrell's dynamic, distinctive, and powerful voice has captivated jazz, R&B, and gospel fans, as well as her peers in the music industry.

Taking to the stage with a student group, Burrell will perform songs from her career, including Try Me Again, Yes to Your Will/Yes, and Victory. Burrell will also sing a solo selection with self-accompaniment on piano. The student ensemble composed of ten vocalists and seven instrumentalists was selected for this concert through an audition process. Leading the group is musical director Rashad McPherson, a Berklee alumnus, and student band director Jamahl Smith.

Kim Burrell Meets Berklee takes place Thursday, February 12, 8:00 p.m., at the Berklee Performance Center. Reserved seating tickets are available for $12/$24 at the BPC box office or berklee.edu/bpc. The venue is wheelchair accessible. For more information, call 617 747-2261.

The concert is part of the Africana Studies Music and Lecture Series, produced by Berklee's Africana Studies programming and the Liberal Arts Department.

Since releasing her first solo album, 1997's Try Me Again, Burrell has shared the stage with gospel greats such as pastors Shirley Caesar, Donnie McClurkin, and Marvin Winans, as well as Yolanda Adams and Kirk Franklin. She has also worked with secular artists including Missy Elliot, Stevie Wonder, George Clinton, George Duke, and Whitney Houston, among others. Her albums include Everlasting Life, Kim Burrell Live (both on Tommy Boy Gospel), and No Ways Tired (Shanachie Records). Her most recent project, The Love Album, won a Dove Award and two Stellar Awards, and was nominated for a Grammy Award.

Burrell started her musical career with the Greater Emmanuel C.O.G.I.C. Choir of Houston. She has been featured on BET s Celebration of Gospel, Lift Every Voice, and The Bobby Jones Gospel Show, and appeared at Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and other notable venues. Burrell exercises her gifts as a musician, writer, producer, orator, workshop facilitator, evangelist, and pastor through her ministry endeavor KB Crew Productions.
