Sennheiser Releases Spectera Firmware 1.4 and Command Button

Sennheiser has released firmware version 1.4 for its Spectera wireless system and announced the Spectera Command Button (Cat. No. 701014). The update adds command functionality, enhanced monitoring via the Spectera WebUI, and full integration with the SoundBase RF management app.

Command Button

The Spectera Command Button connects between the SEK bodypack and the microphone, enabling end users to mute audio or open a talkback channel not heard by the audience. The button can be configured as a latched or momentary switch and includes an integrated clip for positioning on clothing. It is also compatible with Sennheiser's SK 9000 and SK 6000 bodypack transmitters.

The mute function is typically used as a cough button, or when an artist or speaker is offstage. In a places of worship setting, it is ideal when others read or speak, or if any worship preparations should be unheard by the congregation, says Bernd Neubauer, Product Manager Professional Audio, Sennheiser. The talkback function, on the other hand, allows broadcast hosts and interviewers to check back with production, or performers to speak directly with engineers and crew, without the audience hearing.

Firmware 1.4 Monitoring

The update adds RSSI, link quality, battery level, interference status, and audio level monitoring for mics and IEMs (peak and RMS) via the Spectera WebUI.

SoundBase Integration

Spectera can now be fully controlled via the SoundBase app, which Sennheiser describes as the first RF management application supporting both narrowband and wideband systems across multiple manufacturers. Full Spectera control is available in the free SoundBase SE version.

Spectera has received regulatory approval in most global markets, with only Mainland China, South Korea, and Japan still having open regulatory actions.
