The River actor Unathi Mkhize will play a leading role in 1Magic's dramedy Roomies.

BACKGROUND OF ROOMIES' Sunday World reports that the popular actor Unathi Mkhize will lead the cast of Roomies with actors Felicia Mlangeni, Nomalanga Shozi, Mbasa Msongelo, and Ishmael Songo.

1Magic revealed in a statement to News24 that Roomies will showcase the underlying humour that comes with trying to achieve some of the so-called realistic and unrealistic milestones of life such as marriage, being healthy, making lifelong friends, and achieving a fulfilling career.

This comedy explores the interpersonal relationships of five millennials trying to navigate adulthood. From being ghosted, consenting, sibling relationships, parental hangups, partying, making money, and being cool, these are all on their minds as they strive to achieve happiness on a day-to-day basis.

Other popular actors joining the show include Zola Nombona, Siphiwe Mtshali, and Zama Ngcobo.

The 13-episode series will premiere on 4 May on 1Magic and will air on Thursdays.

UNATHI MKHIZE AS NKANYISO IN THE RIVER' The River actor Unathi Mkhize, who made his first big break on the 1Magic telenovela in May 2022 as Nkanyiso has viewers (mainly women) in a chokehold as they gush over his impressive bad-boy stint.

The 24-year-old star told Sowetan that he's the total opposite of his ladies' man character Nkanyiso Hlophe.

I am more of a good guy than my naughty character. I mean, it doesn't really help that my character is this shirtless guy who hardly buttons up his shirt or even has a shirt on. The fun part about playing Nkanyiso is that he's very different from me. Yes, I love exercising and keeping fit, but I'm not a showoff in reality.

Nkanyiso is that hidden bad boy persona in me that I hardly left free but at least I get to experience it by being shirtless and romancing different women.

I had to adjust and understand that I now belong to the public because of my on-screen character, the thespian said.
