Berklee Presents The Show-a Pop Music Spectacle-on March 5

Acclaimed producer, musician, and composer Rob Lewis '94 will present The Show as part of the Signature Series at Berklee on Thursday, March 5, at 8:00 p.m. at the Berklee Performance Center. Lewis, an artist in residence with the college, has served as musical director for an array of popular music's most high-profile artists, such as Christina Aguilera, Fifth Harmony, New Kids on the Block, Toni Braxton, and Babyface. In 2019, Lewis produced Berklees annual Career Jam concert celebrating the lifetime achievements of Epic Records CEO and President and Berklee honorary doctorate recipient Sylvia Rhone. He returned to produce the commencement concert honoring Missy Elliott, Alex Lacamoire, and Justin Timberlake.

The concert will feature Berklee vocalists, rappers, and instrumentalists performing a selection of top hits by the most acclaimed artists in music today. Using the modern American songbook and iconography from present-day pop culture as its framework, The Show was designed to cultivate and hone the artistic potential of Berklee students pursuing careers in the music industry.

In a genre-spanning program, students will perform a wide-ranging collection of the biggest hits in popular music today, including songs by Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, and Lil Nas X. The concert will also pay homage to the performers who shaped the current landscape of the industry, with performances of selections by Gloria Estefan, D'Angelo, Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, and Marvin Gaye.

I've learned that there is no better way to prepare for chasing a career in the music industry than by actually doing the work that great artists do, which includes studying performance and showmanship, strengthening confidence, learning the anatomy of hit records and what it takes to pull them off, said Lewis. Through this process and the building of this show, students will encounter a comprehensive real-world experience, with real-world expectations designed for these future artists and performers to deliver the greatest of themselves.

The Berklee Performance Center is located at 136 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston. Admission is $10/$15 in advance and $15/$20 the day of the show. Tickets are available online and at the Berklee Performance Center box office.
