MELBOURNE, Fla. - L3Harris (NYSE:LHX) announced today, on National STEM Day, providing development grants and volunteer sponsorship and mentorship for nearly 50 student teams nationwide participating in robotics competitions.
The L3Harris Foundation provided roughly $120,000 in grants to support elementary, middle, and high school teams in pursuit of robotics excellence for the 2022-2023 robotics season. Teams applied for grants at the beginning of the school year and selected teams were notified in the fall. The teams' robotics efforts will culminate in world championships in April 19-23 in Houston, Texas, and April 25-29 in Dallas, Texas.
We take great pride in supporting youth programs that cultivate real-world problem-solving skills through team collaboration and hands-on competition, said Elizabeth Brienza, President of the L3Harris Foundation. We believe these young innovators can change the world, and we'd also like to show them that someday they can have a direct impact on keeping their communities and nation safe through their ingenuity and creativity.
L3Harris and its employees have supported robotics, rocketry and other student technology challenges for years as part of its overall community commitment, which focuses on philanthropy and employee volunteerism in STEM, mission-aligned and community initiatives. The L3Harris Investing For Tomorrow, employee volunteerism program - also known as LIFT - empowered employees to support over 1100 volunteer events and community service projects, donating over 105,000 hours in 2021.
