Schneider chose Akamai's security solution Kona Site Defender to provide an optimal combination of protection and performance that translates into an excellent online experience at all times even during peak traffic without any additional investments in hard- or software. Schneider Versand is Europes largest specialist for brand promotional items. In December 2011 the company faced a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. Due to the scale and sophistication of the attack, the open-source based Web server module previously in use was no longer able to cope. At its peak, the attack traffic reached 500,000 requests per second and resulted in Schneider having to take its stores offline for three days. In order to be better protected in future against such attacks, the company opted for Akamais Kona Site Defender. The solution drops malicious traffic before it hits the corporate data centre.
