The annual Cinegy Technical Conference was staged in Munich on the 11th and 12th of February, opened by Cinegy's Managing Director and co-founder Jan Weigner who announced the release of version 9.6 of Cinegy's automation and playout solutions.
The two-day action-packed conference was attended by over one hundred of Cinegy's global partners and customers who witnessed Cinegy's 2014 roadmap, including a sneak peek of version 10 of Cinegy's products along with hands on workshops and much more.
Major highlights and announcements from the conference included:
Changes to the Cinegy Air Product Family
With the release of version 9.6 the Express variants of the Cinegy Air product family no longer exist. The new SOLO versions take the entry level position but with a number of significant changes compared to the previous offering.
In an effort to reduce the number of products the differentiation between SD and HD (as well as soon UHD) has been removed.
HD/4k Support in All Products - Multi-Channel Everywhere
As of version 9.6 all Air / Studio / News playout products can handle all resolutions from SD over HD to 4k/UHD.
Cinegy Air Control User Interface Changes
The release of version 9.6 sees refresh of the user interface - the color scheme has been turned darker, icons have been redesigned, menu structure has been simplified and a top menu bar has been added - all has been tweaked to improve ease of operations.
DANIEL Codec Support
Launched at IBC 2013, Cinegy's own alpha channel codec is out of its public beta phase and now available as standalone AVI codec for use in other products such as Adobe AfterEffects. The DANIEL codec has been integrated into all Cinegy products playing video. The use of DANIEL over other codecs such as QuickTime Animation, AVID DNxHD, HuffYUV, Lagarith and others is advised especially when using video or animations with alpha channel in Cinegy Air. Better network and/or disk performance, lower CPU load, and better quality are the advantages of DANIEL compared to some of the other codecs commonly used for video with alpha channel.
Dolby Digital Certification / Nielsen Certification
Version 9.6 of Cinegy Air and Cinegy Multiviewer are certified by Dolby for both encoding and decoding Dolby Digital signals. Cinegy Air contains a new Dolby Digital Encoder option for encoding Dolby Digital 5.1 / AC3 audio on output as required e.g. for ATSC. Cinegy Multiviewer now includes Dolby Digital decoding by default at no extra cost.
Version 9.6 of Cinegy Air is currently being certified by Nielsen. Certification is expected shortly which would then allow Cinegy Air to embed real-time Nielsen audio watermarks into the audio output streams. Nielsen is commonly used e.g. in the USA for audience measurements and to determine program ratings ( Nielsen Ratings ) which is important for commercial sales.
Closed Caption Support
Version 9.6 sees improved closed caption support (EIA-608 and 708). These improvements will ripple through the Cinegy products range and are already implemented in Cinegy Player and Cinegy Multiviewer.
4k / Sony XAVC Support
Cinegy has started to support 4k / UHD in its products. Sony's XAVC format has been licensed by Cinegy using Cinegy's own Cinecoder codec. Cinegy Player is already capable of playing Sony XAVC files. Other products will follow over the next months.
