TV Norway finds winning ways during first Olympic broadcast

The Norwegians continue to exceed expectations when it comes to the medal count at this year's Winter Games in Sochi, and that is keeping the 140 TV2 Norway staffers who are on hand for the national production more than busy.

TV 2 uses three over-the-air channels (TV 2, TV 2 Zebra and TV 2 Sportskanalen) for the Olympics and the Olympics are shown every day from 7 am-9 pm Norwegian time. All events are also available on demand or live through the Web.

TV2 Norway has a small master control room facility at the IBC in Adler that connects all local positions to the TV2 broadcast facility in Bergen, Norway. There is also enough connectivity to allow for four video signals to be passed each way between Sochi and Bergen to go along with the OBS Multi-channel Distribution Service (MDS) that is received via satellite in Bergen where it is archived in a media asset management system that also makes use of the broadcast data feed.

An EVS at the IBC is tied into the OBS content management system to meet the needs from personnel in both Sochi and Norway. TV2 also has nine ENG crews on hand with material edited on Apple Final Cut Pro and then transferred as a file to Norway. The control rooms in Norway have equipment from Mosart, EVS, and Vizrt for playout, the standard equipment used for playout during non-Olympics coverage.
