Summer in the City Hosts Hundreds of Free Shows for Public

Students, faculty, and alumni from Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory at Berklee will perform more than 400 free concerts throughout the Greater Boston area this summer as part of the Berklee Summer in the City concert series. Performances will take place through the end of September, wrapping up with the Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival on Saturday, September 29.

Boston's neighborhoods, parks, historic locations, and iconic institutions provide the backdrop for the series; these include the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Boston Public Library, the Boston Harbor Islands, Brewer Plaza, and the Prudential Center. Summer in the City performers will also be featured in free festivals in Boston and outside the city, including the Tito Puente Latin Music Series and the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival.

The series presents a variety of genres, including jazz, R&B, Latin, pop, folk, and classical music as part of its 2018 programming. Notable performers this summer include Native American bassist and vocalist Red Elk, harpist Abigail Lim-Kimberg, Puerto Rican cuatro player Fabiola Mendez, jazz pianist and composer Max Holm, R&B singer-songwriter Mayah Dyson, Peruvian reggae pop duo Maddakaya, and indie psych rock group AJNA.

Summer in the City is one of Berklee's best contributions to our local community with free performances all summer long by some of the world's most talented young artists, said Berklee President Roger H. Brown. We look forward to another great summer of free concerts throughout the city and the Greater Boston area. Past performers for Summer in the City have included Esperanza Spalding, Sierra Hull, Betty Who, Haerts, and the Stray Birds.
